‘Darksiders’ Creative Director Insists Series is not Dead, Hints at Sequel

After a surprisingly candid statement from the series’ creative director Joe Madureira, Darksiders fans may finally have a reason to rejoice. In a pre-Q&A Facebook post, Joe fired out information about his upcoming projects (comic books, future conventions), but soon turned his attention to the THQ-“Zelda for grown-ups” adventure series.

“Darksiders] is not dead” he exclaimed!

After THQ began auctioning off their intellectual properties in April of last year, Swedish based Nordic Games acquired a slew of rights, from Red Faction, and Full Spectrum Warrior, to Supreme Commander and MX vs. ATV, among others. According to Madureira, “Nordic seems very committed to continuing the series.” He didn’t clarify whether or not he was tied to the project, explaining that he simply “can’t say at this point” if he is at all involved in Darksiders III.

The last time fans of the series were gifted with a new entry was in 2012 in the form of Darksiders II. Madureira spoke about his visions and ideas for Darksiders III back in May of last year which included the possibility of 4-player co-op, and, as expected the jump to next gen.

Of course, if Darksiders III is in development, it will almost certainly be helmed by a studio other than Virgil Games (the developer of the first two entries.) When THQ liquidated, many employees from the studio were hired by Crytek in order to create Crytek USA.
