Day-One Patch Brings Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag on PS4 at 1080p

[dropcap size=dropcap]T[/dropcap]he PlayStation 4 version of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will run at an intrinsic 1080p resolution, but will necessitate a title update to do so, according to an update on the official Ubisoft blog. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag scripts for the first time, a series installment that will run in true intuitive 1080p.

Now that the PlayStation 4 has launched in the U.S., North American players only need to install a day-one patch to upgrade from the original 900p. UbiSoft says that most won’t be able to tell the metamorphosis after the update, as 900p is very close to 1080p. However, the updated version will seem much smoother.

Players get to experience AC4: Black Flag in glorious 1080p on the PS4

Ubisoft communications manager Gary Steinman explains why there’s a discrepancy between the game that shipped and the title update Ubisoft is rolling out after launch. “[It was to] meet an essential goal: deliver a visually brilliant game at a steady 30 frames per second,” Steinman said.

“Finishing the game at 900p gave the development team the extra room in terms of the GPU and CPU usage to ensure the frame rate never dips below 30 frames per second. The team then used the time between the ship date and the release to focus on a title update that could deliver native 1080p resolution on the PS4” he added.

The title update will also bring with it “a brand-new anti-aliasing technique” to further mend the PS4 game’s visuals, according to the post, a feature that will also apply to the Xbox One version shipping next week.
