DayZ Sells 1.7 Million Copies

by GH Staff

Fans who are currently enjoying the newest major update of the expansive zombie open-world survival game, DayZ, will be pleased to hear that the standalone title has recently sold over 1.7 million copies. The news was announced by creator Dean Hall. Along with the original mod for Arma 2, the game has been sold and downloaded a total of 2 million times.

The news was made public by Hall live on stage at this year’s EGX Rezzed in the UK. The event is held every year in Birmingham’s NEC arena and is dedicated to indie PC and console gaming.

As well as this, the team behind the titular zombie game, Bohemia Interactive, have said they will be employing new staff and technologies to help continue the game’s success. Speaking to Eurogamer recently, the Slovakian studio said that, “[the] new studio is composed by former recruits from the successful Slovak studio Cauldron, and has acquired selected Cauldron facilities and technologies.”

With their experience working on the hunting title Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2012, this latest development fits nicely into the studio’s plans to include animals in future updates, as announced by Hall earlier this month before calling it quits at Bohemia. Other updates players can look forward to include, improved zombie path-finding and amendments to collisions.

While Hall has said he will be leaving the company this year to pursue interests in a New Zealand studio, fans of DayZ will no doubt be looking forward to up and coming updates for the zombie survival MMO.
