DayZ to receive major mouse optimization and heaps of content

by GH Staff

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen DayZ content rolling out to stable servers. Or, it just may be a feeling we’re getting because of the rapid and constant pace Rocket and his team have gotten us used to. Either way, more goodies are incoming in the coming days. The DayZ development team has provided some insight on what we can expect in the future update to the Early Access game, and there are quite a few things to talk about. One of the most notable changes comes to something that might seem trivial, mainly controls. It seems mouse acceleration has been an issue for many DayZ players, and this will be rectified immediately. Head view will now move instantly through 1:1 raw mouse feedback.

This is tailored to the gear you’re using though, so you won’t have the same ease of movement and aiming with just any weapon. Basically, the heavier the item you’re trying to aim with, the harder it will be to do so. A pistol will grant you better and faster aiming capabilities than say a heavier Mosin or Chainsaw. And yes, the chainsaw being mentioned…well, you know what that means. Not the stealthiest of weapons, but it’s bound to make an impression.

With the constant updates to the new physics engine, it’s time for the anticipated bow and crossbow to make an appearance in the game. These are pretty much ready and will be deployed to stable servers within the month of April. The same goes for the P1 pistol, the AKM and a SMG will make its way towards the game a little bit later. New character face models are also being introduced, adding some much needed diversity when it comes to looks. I often had to wear a clown mask just to hide how ugly my character was. In terms of content, we’re also getting a new town called Karmanovka, which promises to be relatively big, having over 3,000 loot spawn locations. It’s unclear where exactly the town will be located, but based on recent trends to move the player-base in-land, it’s likely to be set somewhere around the central region of Chernarus.

Last but not least, we’ll be getting the ability to set flammable objects ablaze, create fireplaces, and we’ll be seeing multiple additions to ragdoll models. DayZ players will get the ability to throw objects and use physics real-time. Animations are implemented to develop throwing abilities, meaning that the longer you’ll hold down your mouse button, the further your character will be throwing objects. Overall, that’s a lot of improvements and additions in works for DayZ this month, but alas, the pressing issue with zombies being glitchy hasn’t been addressed yet. Rocket did explain that this is an on-going development, and it will take time until DayZ’s zombies are working as intended.

What do you think about the upcoming changes do DayZ?
