DayZ’s new major patch is currently being tested on experimental servers, and people are providing more than positive feedback already. According to Dean “Rocket” Hall, the lead developer behind DayZ, it “took 1 minute and 32 seconds for someone to put a burlap sack on their head…”. I’m surprised it took that long, to be honest! If you want to test the current experimental build, you can try to do so on the 17 currently available experimental servers, that run on a separate hive (meaning you’ll start a new character that isn’t transferable to public servers). Getting on these servers will be tricky though, as there’s quite the queue of players trying to get a spot online.
But on to the main news, news that has been eagerly awaited by many DayZ fans. The annoying problems of combat logging and server hopping are soon coming to an end, as a prototype fix for these issues should be done by tomorrow, announced Rocket on Twitter.
Other things currently being tested are the mechanics behind private hives and some changes to the name system which should prevent people streaming DayZ from getting sniped. The SKS rifle is also functional, and will be coming to DayZ in a close-future patch. The addition of private hives is also great news, as private hives will provide additional anti-cheater security, as well as help with the elimination of combat logging and server hopping. Previously, many private hive owners have managed to provide a fair and stable gaming community for the DayZ mod, and we’re hoping to see the same for the DayZ standalone.
In case you’re not familiar with the terms, private hives mean that the databases which handle your character data are individual from public hives. In other words, when you are switching from a private to a public server (or vice-versa), you will have two separate characters. This prevents you from switching between servers to gather loot, and will force you to do it the hard (and fun) way. Private DayZ hives also have an admin-ban system, which in many cases can help against combat loggers or bug abusers.
What DayZ changes are you eagerly looking forward to?
