The Sony Playstation Youtube page has revealed the debut trailer for The Last of Us: Remastered. The trailer does not show much and mainly highlights the many accolades the PS3 version received, which includes over 200 game of the year awards. While a minute amount of gameplay footage is shown, the brief glimpse gives the public their first look at The Last of Us in 1080p: and it uses the perfect clip to display the beauty of this very bleak game. Besides this brief glimpse, the trailer barely shows anything else; it over emphasizes the fact that The Last of Us: Remastered will be in 1080p and gives an estimated release window of Summer 2014.
Now, information has been trickling out about the PS4 version: including the $60 price tag, and its ability to run at 1080p and 60 FPS. On top of the improved resolution, the game will have “a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures.” And finally, The Last of Us: Remastered will ship with the Left Behind DLC, the Abandoned Territories map pack, and the Reclaimed Territories map pack.
This trailer is being released following leaked information that Naughty Dog has been working on the PS4 version since production wrapped on the original game. Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells stated, “We had actually been anticipating [the want for a PS4 version], and started working on it pretty much as soon as we finished the PlayStation 3 [version]. We weren’t sure if it was going to go anywhere, but when we saw the fans clamoring for it we doubled-down, and put more effort behind it.”
While The Last of Us: Remastered was officially announced yesterday, the public should expect more information in the coming weeks: particularly a specific release date and whether PS3 owners will get a discount on the PS4 version.
