The Destiny beta is nearly here! Playstation owners who have pre-ordered the highly anticipated game game get their chance to play on July 17, with Xbox owners coming onboard a week later. Here’s how you can make the most out of your time with the Destiny beta.
1) Don’t go in blind. The more you know about the Destiny beta prior to launch, the better your experience will be. Get to know things like what the Guardians are, what some of the basic gameplay modes are, and even what the basic controls are. This will will speed up your ability to get in, create a character, and start slagging Cabal. The official website has great info, and there’s a whole Destiny wiki already, too. So study up!
2) Know what to expect from the beta. As much as Bungie has said they were treating the Destiny beta as a “full launch” (and given that every PS3 and PS4 player who pre-ordered the game will be logging in July 17, they should be), it is still a beta. The story mode is incomplete, there’s only one Strike mission that we know of, and there will certainly be other gaps in the game. Accept that there will be bugs, flaws, and outages over the two weeks you have access. Don’t complain when they appear. Instead …
3) Learn to take bugs seriously. Since this is a beta, you’re expected to do more than just gun down Vex and Fallen. Look for bugs as you play. When you find them, report them properly to Bungie so that the bugs can be addressed.
4) Download the Companion App. The Destiny companion app looks to have some sweet features. It could definitely help improve your time with the beta. Since you probably already own a smartphone anyway, you should plan on grabbing the companion app on launch day.
5) Get together your Fireteam. The Destiny beta will have a Strike mission — a cooperative, progressive multiplayer assault on a location. These Strikes require a three-player group called a Fireteam. While you can run a Strike with a pick-up group, you know you’ll have more fun with people you can rely on. Line up your best PSN or XBL freinds now so you’re ready to go on day one.
6) Brush up on your FPS skills. Because you can never have too many excuses for firing up Call of Duty, right?
