Capcom has revealed more details on Resident Evil Revelations 2, including plans to release the game episodically.
In a post made on the official Resident Evil Facebook page, Capcom has revealed plans to release Resident Evil Revelations 2 in an episodic format. The game will be released as four downloadable episodes, each priced at $5.99/€5.99, with gamers having the option to buy a season pass for $24.99/ €24.99 or a retail disc of the season, which will be released after the season is finished.
Capcom also promises that “additional game content” will be included in the season pass and disc version of Resident Evil Revelations 2, with details on this additional content to be revealed at a later time.
The post details the plan to roll out the upcoming survival horror game in an episodic fashion as inspired by the first Resident Evil Revelations title:
Evolving the episodic chapter set-up of the original Resident Evil Revelations, Resident Evil Revelations 2 will initially release as a weekly series of episodic downloads. Each of the four episodes features hours of terrifying gameplay ending with dramatic cliff-hangers that leave players fully engrossed and anticipating the next twist in the gripping horror story.
This is an interesting move on Capcom’s part that is very similar to the successful structure that Telltale Games has utilized in many of it’s titles. Time will tell on how this structure will work out in Resident Evil Revelations 2’s favor, but at the very least it gives gamers many options on how to play the upcoming title.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 will begin it’s episodic roll out in early 2015 and will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
