Today, Battlefield 4 developers made an announcement about the next big multiplayer update detailing its content, release date, and their plans for the following updates.
If you’ve been keeping up with Battlefield news lately you will be familiar with changes added to the CTE version of Battlefield 4. The developers plan on bringing these improvements to the vanilla version of the game sometime in September. As a Battlefield fan, I’m wondering why fixing this game has taken so much time. However, I’m certainly glad the patch is on its way. Better late than never. Here is a list of the changes you can expect:
1. Gamemodes: Rush, Obliteration, Capture the Flag, and Carrier Assault are all receiving tweaks and improvements as well as Obliteration Competitive being added to the game to satisfy E-Sports fans. Rush and Carrier Assault will experience changes in how the attacking and defending teams can approach the M-COM objectives. Expect a fair balance between opposing teams. Obliteration and Capture the Flag will no longer track constant movement on the mini-map of any player carrying the bomb or flag. Instead, their position will be updated every 10 seconds or so.
2. Visual Recoil: Weapon sights will no longer bump and sway in a pattern that suggests more gun recoil than there actually is. No changes to bullet drop or spread will result.
3. Movement: Glitchy and stuttering player movement while on foot should no longer occur. Devs say they want to return to a movement system on par with that of Battlefield 3 without sacrificing any quality from the current title. Also, a glitch where 3rd person flinching caused player models to dodge incoming bullets has been fixed.
4. HUD: Players can now scale the messiness or tidiness of their HUD and user interface in settings. You can toggle every single notification on, or only leave what you think is important on your UI.
5. Revive Mechanics: Medics can will now hear a sound to indicate their paddles are fully charged when reviving a victim and can see a timer indication how many seconds their teammates have left. Also, rag doll glitches when reviving a dead player should be taken care of.
6. Netcode: This is the big one. Less kill trades and dying behind cover should be experienced by transferring visual game information from the server to the client side.
7. Vehicle and Weapon Balance: Vehicle strengths and weaknesses will be fairly distributed between vehicle classes and Devs are aiming to even the time to kill between all weapons.
All of these sound like great and much needed changes to Battlefield 4. Unfortunately, we still have to wait a few weeks to experience them unless you are a premium member and have signed up for CTE (here is that link: http://cte.battlelog.com).
So what is next for CTE and future game updates after this patch rolls out? Improved team mechanics. Developers want to change how Commander mode, squads, and field upgrades function on the battlefield. Also, general game mode improvements will be put into place to facilitate better teamwork. No word yet on the specifics of those changes in mind or when we can expect them. Hopefully, Battlefield 4 will survive longer than a one year lifespan with these improvements despite the imminent release of Battlefield Hardline.
