Blizzard has unveiled their Collector’s Edition for Reaper of Souls, the major expansion pack coming for Diablo 3. The retail-only Collector’s Edition will feature the following:
- Diablo III helms and weapons
- A Ghost Wolf minion
- Three additional character slots
- A World of Warcraft companion pet: The treasure goblin
- StarCraft II crusader-themed battle.net portraits and Malthael themed decals
- Behind the scenes Blu-ray / DVD two-disc set
- Hardcover Diablo III: Reaper of Souls art book
- A Malthael themed mouse pad
The price of Diablo 3: Reaper of Soul’s Collector’s Edition is $79.99. Now, I have a few nitpicks with this. Just recently today, we’ve received our first look at Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls Online’s Collector’s Edition, and what that includes. True, Bethesda’s game is considerably more expensive, but the included statuette, artwork and map seem to make up for it. Almost 80 bucks for an expansion pack though? Blizzard certainly seems to be milking the cow on this one.
The only people that could take advantage of what Diablo 3: Reaper of Soul’s Collector’s Edition bundle includes are the people that play all the major Blizzard games, including Starcraft 2 and World of Warcraft. Otherwise, Diablo 3 fans won’t have much use for WoW pets and SC2 themed portraits. Not to mention that the price of the bundle is almost as high as a regular game’s CE, which is a bit much, considering Reaper of Souls is nothing but an expansion pack. Not to say that there won’t be great features. As a matter of fact, if Reaper of Souls does for Diablo 3 what Lord of Destruction did for Diablo 2, the expansion will be well worth the cost. The Collector’s Edition though? Not so much.
Here’s a trailer that includes the major changes Reaper of Souls will bring to Diablo 3. What’s your take on the Collector’s Edition? Yay or nay?
