Even though we are already in 2014, one of the most popular laptops for 2013 the Acer Aspire S7 is still seemingly reigning over the notebook market. Designed to be ultra portable and a perfect companion for business and lifestyle trips, does the laptop actually deliver the best specifications for its price?

The Acer Aspire S7 is super slim being only 13x323x223 mm in size and overall weight of only 1.3 kg with the power supply weight being 0.250 kg. It is stylish and its maximum opening able of the display is as much as 180 degrees. Being easy to carry, the back of the laptop’s display is reinforced by Gorilla Glass protection. Even though the cover is not completely flush with the base of the device, the rubber lip that surrounds the frame adds additional protection and blends in with the overall slick design.

The display of the Acer Aspire S7-391 is a Full HD with a native resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The color accuracy is quite decent, but even though the contrast is high and bright enough, the notebook is still difficult to use outdoors because of the glassy surface of the display. The viewing angles of the Acer Aspire S7 are satisfactory as well and content is pretty visible thanks to the ISP panel. The specified viewing angle of the laptop is 160 degrees and after exceeding the limit, the gray and white colors start to blend, but content is still quite easily seen.

Even though the idle runtime of the Acer Aspire S7 is better than its predecessors being over 12 hours, it is still not good enough to compete with the over 25 hours idle battery life of its main competitor the MacBook Pro 2013 retina display version. If you are using the device for WiFi surfing the battery is able to withstand over six hours, but on maximum brightness it holds for just under two hours.

The Acer Aspire S7 features an Intel Core i7-4500U running at 1.8 GHz and 8GB of DDR 3 RAM memory giving it an overall superb performance, but because of its Intel HD Graphics 4400 chipset the laptop is not recommended as much for gaming. The bottom cover of the device is easily removed, which reveals the two fans that dissipate the heat making the maximum temperature of the device on Maximum Load about 46.8 degrees celsius.

The thin notebook from Acer performs well when used with different applications, is easy to carry because of its design and is well built. The battery life is also quite decent as is the brightness and contrast of the display, but the glossiness makes it hard to use outdoors. Overall the Acer Aspire S7 is a great laptop and it definitely delivers for its price.
