The Wolfenstein website just released new facts regarding the Doom beta, which is available when players preorder Wolfenstein: The New Order. On the FAQ page, it is revealed that the Doom beta will only be on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Now if the player preorders a PS3 and Xbox 360, they will still be able to receive the beta key: but the key is only for the current consoles.
On top of this, they reveal that the Doom beta key will be in the hard copy of the game. And they cannot guarantee that the digital preorders will get the access: but they are working with Steam, Sony, and Microsoft to fix this problem. In the mean time, they “suggest contacting your preferred retailer directly for additional information.” One must assume that this will be answered as the May 20th release date of Wolfenstein: The New Order looms closer: but at the same time, several important details about the beta has yet to be announced.
While Bethesda is unable to give any other information about the start date or length of the Doom beta, they say that the player needs a valid email when they attempt to redeem the code: after, the gamer must wait until the company contacts him or her with further instructions. Bethesda also points out that there is no guarantee there will be an open beta: “the only current way to ensure an invitation is through pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order. [Bethesda] will be providing more information on additional beta tests, if any, at a later time.”
Last, and most importantly, they clarify if the player needs 1st Party Premium Subscriptions to play the Doom Beta: an Xbox live account is needed, but a Playstation Plus membership is not required. For now, this is the only concrete information that the public has gotten about the Doom beta. Hopefully as the release date of Wolfenstein approaches, the players will get more information.
