The team at Double Fine has been hit by layoffs after funding for a recent project didn’t quite work out as planned.
The studio has stated that the 12 employees they laid off were working on an unannounced title. Therefore, this shouldn’t affect their other titles being developed such as: Broken Age: Act 2, Massive Chalice, and Grim Fandango Remastered.
“Our remaining projects –Broken Age, Massive Chalice, and Grim Fandango Remastered, were unaffected.” – Tim Schafer, Double Fine founder stated.
Currently nothing is known on the project that was canceled or any details on the deal in funding the title. It’s difficult to say why the deal they were discussing with an unknown publisher fell through.
We’ll continue to follow this story if any further details come out regarding the publisher they were in talks with and/or the game that was cancelled. For the developers affected by the layoffs, be sure to stay active on Twitter as companies are always reaching out with offers.
