It is common knowledge that people use rude language all over the internet. It is one of the main reasons parents forbid their kids to play some online games. Not only that, but on the cover of almost all blockbuster games nowadays the ‘Strong Language’ ERSB icon can be seen. However, Microsoft believes that using excessive profanity is not a thing, which should be seen in their Xbox One video uploads.
Here we see a huge contradiction. The games offered for the console are full of suggestive themes and rude language, yet they are supported by Microsoft. On every E3 press-conference we see the enthusiasm with which the games for the Xbox are presented, by the very faces and owners of the big company. How then, whilst we see that happening, the company is trying to lead a war against swearing?
Customers of the console have been banned, for no apparent reason, getting the message that they should ‘Choose something else to play’; later to learn that they were banned from Xbox Live, simply because of a video they’ve uploaded. Many of them are outraged; however, Microsoft does not regret their decision.
Speaker for the Microsoft team told the verge, that personal calls and chats are not being monitored. However they are not denying that they are strictly monitoring the videos that the customers are uploading via the Upload Studio, on the Xbox One.
Where does the gamer stand? It is a bit of controversial, the censorship that Microsoft is putting on the customers of their console; However, isn’t it actually a good thing?
In a world where the internet is full of rude language and swears, and where a pure and profound game video is hardly found, isn’t it good to have a place full of clear thoughts, stylish and classy videos? Isn’t it good to have a place where the gaming world and the gamers themselves don’t seem like the scum of the society that is always swearing and exploiting the suggestive themes of a game for their amusement, like a kid from the kindergarten?
Yet, we all know that we are not like this. Gamers are not swearing, because they are stupid and douchebags. Gamers are a collection of almost every society on this Earth. Still they are human and swear from time to time, sometimes, yes, maybe excessively, but so what? We are living in a world, where people are surrounded by swearing and rude words.
Isn’t a direct ban, kind of a strong thing for Microsoft to be doing? What about a simple warning, removing the video or something like that? The questions that a person could ask him or herself are endless. Yet the facts are there – not one or two players have already experienced the hard knock on the door from Microsoft, telling them to “Choose Something Else To Play.” Having that in mind, keep your language clean and watch your manners, when uploading a video, because you never know what will come up in the head of the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement team and when they may ban you.
