As many gamers are well aware, BioWare’s recently released Dragon Age: Inquisition is considered, by the majority of the gaming community, to be a great game.
However, no game is perfect, and in regards to the PC version of the game, many players of that particular iteration are also privy to the fact that the game has some issues. Putting aside Dragon Age: Inquisition on PC’s woefully wonky keyboard and mouse controls, the main culprit of many PC gamers’ frustration with the game stems from its dreadful “tactical view,” which has quite a few issues in and of itself.
The aforementioned issues pertaining to Dragon Age: Inquisition‘s tactical view include, but are not limited to: The camera auto-centering after selecting a different party member, no native mouse-panned camera movement, and the maximum height of the camera being extremely limited.
When BioWare announced that Dragon Age: Inquisition would indeed have an isometric tactical view, many gamers were delighted, due in part to the feature’s non-existence in Dragon Age II and because the view was so well-accepted in original Dragon Age: Origins (Note: The isometric view was only implemented in the PC versions of DA:O).
Yet, Dragon Age: Inquisition‘s tactical view was a disappointment to many because of some of the reasons listed above. Many were expecting an isometric view in the vein of Dragon Age: Origin‘s, which many PC gamers considered to be the optimal manner in which to experience the game. Obviously, that is not the case, much to the dismay of veteran Dragon Age: Origins (and other various PC RPG) players.
Fortunately, an individual on /r/DragonAge by the name of “olegbl” managed to do the seemingly impossible, and somehow hacked Dragon Age: Inquisition‘s code to bring back the isometric perspective from Dragon Age: Origins that so many PC gamers know and love.
(Note: I say “mod” in the title, but its more of a hack/cheat since it utilizes “CheatEngine,” a popular game editing tool. From my research, Dragon Age: Inquisition would be notoriously tough to “mod” in the traditional sense – i.e. Skyrim or the original Dragon Age: Origins – due to the fact that it runs on the Frostbite 3 engine, which is apparently pretty much un-moddable.)

Dragon Age: Inquisition – Bringing Back The Isometric View
As seen in both the featured article image and the picture above, olegbl’s mod/hack allows the camera in Dragon Age: Inquisition to be pulled back as high (or as close – see image below) as the player desires – allowing them the option to play the game much in the same manner as Dragon Age: Origin‘s isometric viewpoint allowed.
Keep in mind that olegbl’s cheat table is not perfect, as using it indoors or confined spaces when zoomed out far doesn’t allow players to see through environments or objects as the original DA:O or many other isometric RPG’s allow. However, for gamers hankering to experience Dragon Age: Inqusition as they hoped when BioWare announced DA:I‘s tactical view, it might do the trick.

What are your thoughts on this development? If you’re playing Dragon Age: Inquisition on PC and wanted a perspective similar to DA:O, will you give this a spin? Why or why not?
