For those of you who claimed that the Dragon Age franchise was lacking in mustachioed gay characters, BioWare apparently heard you. Introducing Dorian, Dragon Age Inquisition‘s openly gay character!
While in the past Dragon Age installments characters were bi-sexual, Dorian is different in that he’s exclusively gay, thereby making him exclusively a male-only love interest in Dragon Age Inquisition. Here’s what series lead writer David Gaider said on the Dragon Age website about the progressive decision “Dorian is gay—he is, in fact, the first fully gay character I’ve had the opportunity to write. I suppose this aspect of Dorian will make him controversial in some corners, but I was glad to include it. It made writing Dorian a very personal experience for me, and I’m hopeful that will make him seem like a fully realized character to fans in the end.”
For a while the ability to make your character either straight, gay, or bi-sexual has been an appealing part of the Dragon Age franchise since 2009 with the release of Origins, opening up a new way to make your hero completely unique to most other video game protagonists. As annoying as love triangles tend to be in real life, you have the option of making unique love triangles in the game, though you had to choose only one lover in the end (boo!). Luckily players were able to have the option of having a threesome in both Dragon Age Origins and the sequel Dragon age II, (yay!).
Dorian adds another dimension to an already diverse Dragon Age Inquisition character lineup, which even includes a freakin’ Qunari. Just one more reason to be excited for the release of this title, which will be available on October 7th in North America and on October 10th in Europe for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC systems.
