The Last of Us writer Neil Druckmann has confirmed the upcoming Naughty Dog The Last of Us film adaptation will be a retelling of the story seen in the Game of the Year award winning breakout title we saw last yaer on the PlayStation 3. While speaking with IGN after last night’s BAFTA awards – in which The Last of Us won five awards – Druckmann confirmed the film would follow the in-game store, instead of an off-shoot.
“It’s an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us,” he said. “As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film… We’re not sure yet. We’re only just scratching the surface.”
Druckmann added that Naughty Dog is indeed working on another multiplayer DLC release, which will finish off the game’s season pass promises.
Druckmann was also asked about the The Last of Us 2 brainstorming sessions happening at developer Naughty Dog’s offices. Druckmann said, “We don’t know yet. We’re still trying to figure it out. We’re brainstorming some stuff, so we’ll see where that goes.”
The Last of Us 2 could easily win another Game of The Year award, though it most likely won’t happen until at least 2015 or 2016. For now, The Last of Us film will be holding everyone over and converting a few fans to the series.
