EA has replied to a fan petition about Anita Sarkeesian’s involvement with Mirror’s Edge 2 development on Change.org
Just a short while ago, EA replied to a fan petition that wanted to “Remove Anita Sarkeesian from Mirror’s Edge 2 game development”, stating that the petition itself was based on false information.
The petition itself was put onto Change.org by Danielle Bristol over three months ago and the reasoning behind it according to the petition itself was because (and I’m quoting the first two paragraphs here):
“Anita Sarkeesian has no credibility or experience in game development. She is merely a self proclaimed critic and her opinions should offer no sound foundations in the development of this or any game. She has no experience in the industry.”
“Anita does not speak for gamers, female or otherwise, on the difficulty or appeal of games. She only offers personal insights catering to her own agenda. In fact, she went so far as to say that women needed a whole new “simplified” control set for this game, based on her personal experiences, passing them off as the opinion of the female gaming community.”
The petition also stated that at one time Anita Sarkeesian even spoke against her status as a gamer. However once the petition was only a little over 2,000 signatures away from its goal of 50,000 signatures, EA stepped in and revealed that “This petition is based on inaccurate information. EA is not working with Anita Sarkeesian on development of Mirror’s Edge“.
This petition may have been started due to a rumour that was spread back near the start of November which claimed that EA had hired Anita Sarkeesian to work with DICE on Mirror’s Edge 2 and that DICE had to use all of her ideas.
So now that EA has stepped in and revealed that Anita Sarkeesian isn’t involved in Mirror’s Edge 2 development, what’s your opinion on the matter? Are you relieved with the news? No matter your opinion, tell us in the comment section below.
