According to Pete Dodd of DoddScientifics.com, EA and EA Sports have lied to and misled North American PlayStation Vita owners in regards to the PlayStation Vita version of their latest entry into the beloved FIFA franchise, FIFA 15.

FIFA 15 Marketing Misleading to PS Vita Owners

To preface the following information, 2013 saw the arrival of “Legacy Editions” of EA Sports games on various platforms. In terms of last year’s FIFA 14, EA stated that its “Legacy Edition” was merely a kit update and lacking any new game modes. Dodd says that while the information was not as easily available as it should have been, at least EA had the common courtesy to state that it existed.

However, this year it appears that EA has reverted back to making large, misleading, and false statements about their games.

Take a look at FIFA 13‘s PlayStation Vita description:

As stated above, the PS Vita version of FIFA 13 included 8 games modes, as well as head-to-head online play.

The PlayStation Vita version of the next year’s installment, FIFA 14, was dubbed a “Legacy Edition,” you can view that particular game’s description below

In the above description, EA is fairly truthful in stating that the rosters and kits for FIFA 14 for the PS Vita have been updated, while no changes have been made to the actual game modes/gameplay.

Now compare what has been previously shown with the recently released PlayStation Vita version of this year’s FIFA 15.

In the case of FIFA 15 for the PS Vita, EA Sports does not state that the game is a “Legacy Edition,” instead saying that FIFA 15 has “award winning FIFA console gameplay,” which is different from FIFA 13, which stated which console EA was referring to (PlayStation 3).

EA also states that FIFA 15 has high definition visuals, which, from a technical perspective, the PlayStation Vita screen is unable to achieve, due to its screen quality being 1/4th of 1080p.

Furthermore, EA describes FIFA 15 has containing “the largest feature set every created by EA Sports for a handheld device,” while also stating that the game includes 6 game modes and 500 licensed clubs, versus FIFA 13’s 8 game modes and FIFA 14‘s 600 licensed clubs.

Adding even more fuel to the proverbial fire, FiFA 15 for the PlayStation Vita is touted as having 2-player online play (“Network Players – 2” can be seen in the above description), however, many gamers who own and play the game state that online play has been removed from the game entirely.

In addition, the ESRB label does not say that the PS Vita game has online play capabilities, at least for the digital download version of FIFA 15. Also, the physical copy of the game does not say “Legacy Edition” anywhere on the front cover.

Ultimately, EA and EA Sports are claiming that FIFA 15 for the PlayStation Vita, a game that has 2 less game modes and 100 less licensed clubs than previous FIFA iterations and no online play, contains “the largest feature set ever created by EA Sports for a handheld device.”

What are your thoughts on EA/EA Sports marketing for the PlayStation Vita version of FIFA 15? Are they misleading or lying to their customers? Is it simply bad wording on their part, or a misinterpretation error on the consumer’s side?
