It looks like it’s that time of year where multiple games are seeing releases on multiple platforms. After I’ve covered the remastered editions of Fable, Journey, and The Unfinished Swan, Playstation’s blog informs us that Ether One will be coming to the PS4.
Ether One was a game released on PC in March of 2014. White Paper Games will be using the new Unreal Engine 4, so we’re going to see some major updates to the game. It’s not another port, but it will be remastered from it’s Steam release. This was White Paper Games’ first game and Ether One was nominated for a Develop Award in the Use of Narrative category.
Ether One is an exploration game with an optional storyline, reminiscent of the first Zelda. There is somewhere to go, but the game doesn’t force you to continue on the same path. Players can take their own paths and explore the regions around them. There are also some quests that go old-school in the puzzle solving category, but only for those who are willing. However, those who go the extra mile with the optional puzzles will be rewarded in the long run. The narrative of the game is simple, but with each optional puzzle, there’s more depth to every encounter. Something to keep in mind for those who haven’t played before!
White Paper Games hopes to achieve a story of “how fragile the human mind” can be. Your role in the game is that of a “Restorer” to save those who are in trouble with dementia in order to “restore” their memories. With every new memory comes new life to the story, hence the depth of the game with optional quests.
Again, notion to an award for Use of Narrative could mean this story is going to blow your mind, so if you’re into solving some mind puzzles, I’d suggest you take a look at Ether One. There’s no set release date, but it could be this fall or in 2015. I don’t expect Ether One to take any longer than that.
