EVO 2014 Tournament Will Feature Nearly 2000 USFIV Players

by GH Staff

The Evolution championship series is the largest fighting game tournament for international players, who all congregate in the US to see who comes out on top in different games. This year, Evolution is taking place in Las Vegas from July 11-13 and will contain several up to date fighting games. Shoryuken, the premier fighting game news website, released the number of entrants for each game and the recently released Ultra Street Fighter IV has nearly 2000 players showing up. Below are the full number of entrants for each game.

  •     Ultra Street Fighter IV – 1979
  •     Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 – 1014
  •     Super Smash Bros. Melee – 970
  •     BlazBlue: Chronophantasma – 508
  •     Killer Instinct – 338
  •     King of Fighters XIII – 319
  •     Injustice: Gods Among Us – 311
  •     Tekken Tag Tournament 2 – 257

Understandably, USFIV receives the most numbers due to Street Fighter being the most known fighting game in the world. Super Smash Bros Melee, which had a phenomenal showing at least year’s Evo, is bringing up 3rd behind the always popular UMVC3. The Xbox One exclusive Killer Instinct has received a pot bonus of $10,000 from Razer, a gaming peripheral manufacturer. Similarly, BlazBlue: Chronophantasma was given a $30,000 bonus to the prize pool by its developer Arc System Works and its publisher Aksys Games.

Aside from the main games, attendees will have a chance to try out demos for upcoming games such as Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, as well as participate in side tournaments for games that aren’t being run by the tournament organizers, such as Street Fighter x Tekken. The stage is set for Evo 2014 to be the biggest yet and anyone can watch the whole thing through Twitch TV, with multiple streamers providing feeds each day.
