A group of former Battlefield developers have just recently come out with their own studio and project. They’re not alone in this endeavour, however, as their group also consists of former Spark Unlimited employees (the developer behind Lost Planet 3 and Call of Duty: Finest Hour).
After reportedly months of work, the group former launched their own indie studio by the name of “Fugitive Games”, which has been set yo in Santa Monica, California. Right now, there are only four members comprising the newly found develope: Ben Jones and Marc Janas (Battlefield 4), and Alden Fillion and Roy Orr (Lost Planet 3).
Having said that, the group have also managed to get a hold of Jack Wall, who composer of the award-winning soundtracks for the first two Mass Effect games. The group is hoping Wall will potentially help them work on the studio’s first title, a sci-fi survival simulator that features permadeath and resource management: “Into the Stars“.
Right now, Fugitive Games is trying kickstart Into the Stars, which is still in its early days. At the time of writing, the game’s crowdfunding campaign has already accumulated 1,550 backers, who have pledged a total of just over $37,000. The kickstarter has 28 more days to go in order for Fugitive Games to raise enough funds to reach its $85,000 goal.
In Into the Stars, you captain a ship named “Ark 13”, the last ship to leave Earth. According to the game’s story, an alien race has been besieging Earth for the past 10 years, and humanity’s defense are few and far between. Ark 13 is the last surviving escape vessel, and it’s your job to make both the ship and her inexperienced crew escape the alien onslaught.
The crew itself is as green as green can get, as the more experienced personnel are implied to be all dead. However, they are eager, and under your command they’ll gain experience and become more proficient across six different categories: Engineering, Piloting, Command, Medical, Toughness and Mining. You’ll have to ensure your crew survives, because if one member goes they’ll be gone forever.
Before launching the ship, you also get to choose which module you’ll get to start with. That’s not the only concern, though, as you’ll need to worry about what what resources you’ll bring in your limited cargo space. Once you’re actually in space, you’ll also need to manage your crew, the civilians that inhabit your ship, and your aforementioned modules and resources. On top of all that, you also have to make sure you aren’t caught by the pursuing aliens. Linger at your own risk, as staying still for too long will make you easier to find.
