While we’re used to comparing smartphones released by different manufacturers, this time around we will keep it in the same family by putting up a showdown among the iPhone 5s and the two latest Apple flagships. The 5s has been around in the smartphone arena since September of last year so those who are currently using it might be considering the idea of upgrading to either the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6 Plus. Let’s find out if there’s a need for you to upgrade or not based on the actual comparison below.
iPhone – Display and Design
All Apple iPhone versions released in the market make use of LED-Backlit IPS LCD technology for their screen displays. The sizes of the three devices grow gradually with the 5s having a 4-inch display, iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch display and the iPhone 6 Plus with a 5.5-inch display. The first two mentioned devices share similar pixel density of 326ppi while the last device comes with a higher pixel density of 401ppi.
The designs of the two iPhones released in September are different from the iPhone 5s but we are not talking about radical changes here. The most prominent difference is that the newer versions no longer have sharp edges just like the 5s but curved already and the two iPhone 6 devices have embraced a metallic finish that looks like a ceramic making them more comfortable when held.
Hardware and Operating System
Of course, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus offer grand features than their sibling because it has been a year since the iPhone 5s has been released in the market. The 5s has internal memory variants of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB which is no longer offered in the newer versions. The new iPhone 6 has removed the 32GB variant and substituted it with a 128GB storage capacity instead. As expected, the 5s doesn’t run on the latest iOS 8 but iOS7 still.
As for the camera system, the iPhone 6 uses digital stabilization for its shooter to offer crisp and vivid images while the iPhone 6 Plus uses optical image stabilization to make it a great choice for taking snaps and recording HD videos.
The comparisons here are not really comprehensive but hopefully you’ll be able to use this information in determining whether to upgrade from your iPhone 5s to either one of the newer iPhone 6 versions. If you need a little bit more information about the three devices, you can study about them on the internet or if you want, you can drop by a nearby Apple store and check these devices out before deciding if you want to upgrade your device or not.
