With the launch of Far Cry 4 Just around the corner, creative director of Ubisoft Montreal Alex Hutchinson came out with confirmation that the map editor will not support the creation of competitive multiplayer maps. The situation came to light for fans of the series when an early Twitch broadcast showed challenge maps as the options for the map editor.
Fans rushed to Ubisoft’s forums leading to a now 275 page thread voicing the general outrage for this decision from Ubisoft. Alex Hutchinson took to twitter replying to fans and clearing the air.
“I direct the game but I don’t set budgets or timelines. We always squeeze in as much as we can, but we’re always prioritizing.”
He then went on to give a little bit of hope for the future of the map editor, stating that support may be added in the future.
“We’re going to keep supporting the game so hopefully we can get it done post release. No promises but we will try.”
As it currently stands at launch of Far Cry 4, the map editor will allow players to create custom maps for four different mission types – Assault: A map where players are tasked to kill all enemies, Hunt: Players must kill all animals, Outpost: Where an outpost must be captured and Extraction: Players must get from point A to point B without dying.
Will the lack of a multiplayer map editor be the icing on the cake, or will you be purchasing Far Cry 4 so you can run, glide and burn your way through Kyrat either way?
