Far Cry 4 May Not Run At 1080p On Xbox One

Far Cry 4 PC review code delayed until Monday before release

The latest iteration of Ubisoft’s open-world  franchise, Far Cry 4, was released to critical acclaim earlier this week, obtaining respectable scores from multiple outlets. Gamers from all around the world have been able to explore the mountains of Kyrat, some however may have exploring at a resolution lower than the targeted native 1080p.

Far Cry 4 is beautiful on all of the next of the current-gen platforms, but the Xbox One version is reportedly running at 1400×1080 resolution, slightly lower than the promised native full 1080p resolution which is available on the Playstation 4. Microsoft has suffered from games running at lower resolution on the Xbox One in comparison to Sony’s Playstation 4, this is evident with many releases through-out 2014 including titles such as; Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, The Golf Club, Lords of the Fallen and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor just to name a few.

The news of Far Cry 4 possibly not running at a native 1080p resolution on Xbox One comes from Gobalisatuer, an expert from the renowned Beyond3D Forums. Gobalisatuer analyzed the Xbone version of Far Cry 4 and concluded in his “Image Quality and Framebuffer Analysis” thread that the Xbone version of Far Cry 4 runs at native 1400×1080 resolution which is slightly lower than the full HD 1920×1080 resolution that Ubisoft were originally targeting on the Xbox One. Gobalisatuer explained that Far Cry 4 uses dynamic horizontal scaling to get to the full 1080p mark.

Even though the men and women from Beyond3D rarely get their pixel counting skills proven wrong, you should take this resolution allegation with a pinch of salt until Ubisoft officially clarifies Far Cry 4’s resolution on Xbox One. Even if the resolution for the Xbox One version of Far Cry 4 is lower than it’s PC and Console brethren, there is no denying that Far Cry 4 looks amazing no matter where it is played.
