In late 2012, a new batch of Vault Hunters were dispatched to Pandora to stop a new villain from awakening an ancient, powerful entity. Now, after what’s felt like a never-ending flood of additional content, the final DLC for Borderlands 2 will release on April 15.
Since its launch, Borderlands 2 has received over 40 additional content packs, ranging from customization items, to full-length campaigns. Two more Vault Hunters were added to the playable roster, with Gauge the Mechromancer and Krieg the Psycho, each with a complete set of skills and and entire perk-tree to explore. Four full-length DLC campaigns were added, with each one focusing on specific characters from the uncanny world of Pandora. Players could choose to embark on a pirate-themed adventure with “Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty”, cause mayhem and chaos with “Mister Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage”, discover bizarre wildlife in “Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt”, and even take part in a tabletop game with “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep”.
Like the original Borderlands, the sequel was given an extra DLC that raised the level-cap….and then another one, which added “Raid on Digistruct Peak” and overpowered levels that exceed well past 72. Last Fall, Gearbox Software began releasing the final series of short DLC campaigns for Borderlands 2 with the Headhunter Packs. Each of these holiday-themed expansions included a brief series of missions that led up to a boss; defeating said enemy would grant an exclusive “Head” for character customization. So far, four of these have been released, with “T.K. Baha’s Bloody Harvest” (Halloween), “The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler” (Thanksgiving), “How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day” (Christmas), and “Mad Moxxi and the Wedding Day Massacre” (Valentine’s Day).
Tomorrow, April 15, Gearbox and 2K will release “Sir Hammerlock Versus the Son of Crawmerax” as the fifth Headhunter DLC, and final expansion for Borderlands 2. While the holiday tie-tin is a bit loose this time, Son of Crawmerax has an Easter theme to its setting. The Vault Hunters have all come to an island resort (it’s not the name, but the holiday reference is “Easter Island”), where all of the architecture is bright, colorful and pastel-painted (pastel colors are associated with Easter). As Sir Hammerlock is investigating the mysterious disappearance of the resort’s inhabitants, he’s abducted by one of the environment’s many creatures. To the dismay of Hammerlock and the Vault Hunters, he has been taken as a sacrifice to the Son of Crawmerax, the offspring of the hidden Raid Boss from the Borderlands DLC “The Secret Armory of General Knoxx”.
According to the IGN preview, Sir Hammerlock Versus the Son of Crawmerax will be the largest Headhunter DLC of the five. The final DLC for Borderlands 2 will release on April 15 for all platforms (360, PS3, PC, Mac), and will cost $2.99.
While the Borderlands 2 saga has come to a close, fans will get a taste of what happened between the two games, with the upcoming Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel from 2K Australia. Those who want a chance to win a bit of custom Borderlands-themed hardware can also enter in Razer’s sweepstakes for a chance to win a 14″ Razer Blade, signed by the Borderlands development team!
