Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch for PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027. The date was announced during September’s State of Play alongside an extended gameplay presentation and new information about exploration, combat systems and the game’s premium editions.

According to the official PlayStation Blog announcement, Revelation is the final entry in the remake trilogy that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The announcement specifically confirms PS5; it does not establish release plans for other platforms.

The Highwind expands open-world travel

The Highwind airship will give players a new way to move through the game’s large open world. Ground exploration also returns through the chocobo Piko, who now acts as both a mount and a combat ally. Piko can grow stronger with the party and gain capabilities that assist in traversal and battles.

Square Enix also revealed instant character switching while exploring. Players will be able to move between party members without waiting for a battle, while a grappling gun adds another traversal option for scaling rooftops and moving through urban areas.

Certain quests will let players choose which party member takes the lead. The official description says that choice can affect how specific story events and gameplay scenarios unfold, adding character-focused variations to parts of the adventure.

The FITS system changes roles and appearances

Combat expands through Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, shortened to FITS. These uniforms provide specialized move sets and alter both a character’s abilities and appearance. Four types have been announced: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner.

The gameplay presentation showed Cid wearing the Knight FITS and Vincent using Summoner. Because each uniform changes a party member’s combat function, the system is positioned as a way to customize tactics rather than as a purely cosmetic costume feature.

Queen’s Blood also returns with a substantial new storyline centered on Red XIII. The card-game campaign will introduce new opponents and mechanics that can change the flow of a match, giving experienced players additional challenges beyond the version featured in Rebirth.

Pre-orders include a new Summon Materia

Digital pre-orders are now available through PlayStation Store. Every edition includes the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia as a pre-order bonus.

The Premium Edition includes the main game, a Story Expansion Pass and access 24 hours before the standard release. It also contains the Reclaimant Choker accessory and consumable items intended for the early stages of the game. Square Enix says the expansion pass will provide two story-focused DLC releases, with further details to come later.

The Premium Plus Edition adds a digital art book, a digital mini soundtrack, Polydroid Alexander Summon Materia, Nymphwing Bracelet armor and the Risk Taker’s Choker accessory to the Premium Edition contents.

The confirmed launch date, Highwind exploration and FITS system establish the core of the new announcement. More information about the two story expansions and any platforms beyond PS5 remains outside what Square Enix has formally detailed.
