Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn

Since Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn went into its beta-phase earlier this week for the PlayStation 4, numerous subscribers of the MMORPG were concerned as to how the game would transfer onto the console. Well, we have good news to report in accordance to that; the folks over at Destructoid were able to comment on their perspective of the brand-new PS4 version (which is still in the throes of beta but will open to the public on Apr 11 for early access and Apr 14 for everyone else.) And so far, every word in regards to the switch has been met with undivided praise.

It’s been a long few months in waiting patiently for information regarding the PS4 release since late February when the first official trailer was posted on PlayStation’s official channel. But the guarantee that the game is seeing all of the attention it needs to entice the ultimate experience to subscribers new and old on the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn scene is going to be worth the prolonged delay.

Chris Carter at Destructoid stated that, “[Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s] UI works just as well on the PS4, but there’s a major twist here that helps make this the definitive version — the Touchpad.” Explaining further his reasoning behind the console-swap from the prior PS3, Carter said, “Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn‘s Touchpad functionality transcends anything any developer has attempted so far on the platform. The chief reason why it’s so great is the fact that you can rub your thumb on the pad to function as a mouse cursor, including the power to ‘click’ the pad to simulate a mouse click.” As a multitude of a Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn diverted toward the PC version in order to avoid the unnecessary tousle of a console’s interface. Destructoid is certain that we’ll be seeing a major improvement in the game’s overall performance as it hits the PS4 on the intended release date.

For those of us that are considering switching from the PS3 onto next-gen, Square Enix has made an attempt to keep the overall transition process as painless as possible. When the awaited Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn launches on the PS4, the company is offering a free PS3-to-PS4 license transfer. The service that they’re offering basically means that you can simply log into the Mog Station online, go through the basic procedures, and transfer over your rights to the PS3 game unto the current-gen console.

Destructiod commented that, “another huge get for the PS4 version is full Cross-Play support with the PC and PS3 platforms.” Which was not unexpected; since the PC version and PS3 version seemed to have very little differentiation between the two via online play. Generally, what you can expect from the jump onto the PS4 is the upgraded 1080p visuals, which look as vibrant as you could expect. The draw distance for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is staggering, the framerate is near perfect, which was one of the common quips that PS3 owners had in terms of their game. Everything seems to be running incredibly smooth, at the moment.

Now comes the big question, are player’s willing to pay for the transfer onto the PlayStation 4 or are they content with paying the $15 subscription on the PlayStation 3 that is already set-up and paid in full? Or is it possible to assume that some who’ve chosen to stick with the PC version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn might choose to dabble on the PS4?

What’s your commentary on the idea of swapping for a high-resolution console?
