FixYa releases the top five technical problems for the Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One

by GH Staff

FixYa, a website in which community members ask and answer questions about consumer products, released a report on Nintendo’s Wii U, Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One.

The report tallied up all of the error reports on its website and ranked them by percentage for each console.

  • Freezing 35%
  • Gamepad 30%
  • Internet 15%
  • Audio/Visual 10%
  • Other 10%

The main issue here was freezing.

The site offers these troubleshooting options for an icy console:

  • Keep the system patched and up to date
  • Beware of “bricking.” If your console freezes, wait a few minutes before restarting it. If doesn’t start back up, then contact Nintendo customer service.
  • Always unplug all cords and wait two minutes after resetting a frozen console
  • Keep the Wii U in a cool, open space. Use a fan if the console is getting too hot.

  • Kinect 30%
  • Console turning off 25%
  • Audio/Sound 15%
  • Cached pages 10%
  • Other 20%

The number one problem area here isn’t an actual part of the console but instead the camera/motion detection/voice command hardware add-on Kinect. A lot of people reported that their Kinects no longer recognized them or weren’t functioning well/at all.

Here are some troubleshooting options for the Kinect:

  • Plug it in
  • Reset your Xbox One, unplug all cords and wait two minutes before powering back on
  • Keep your Kinect up to date
  • Contact customer service if problems continue

  • Console Turning Off 35%
  • No Audio/Video 25%
  • Freezing 20%
  • Disc Drive 10%
  • Other 10%

The main issue with the PS4 is part of the powering up process. Either the system shuts down or won’t start up at all. These errors are accompanied by a flashing red or blue light in the center of the PS4 (it should be a white light).

If you are getting this error, you will likely have to send your PS4 back to Sony. However, there are some things that you can try before doing so:

  • Check out your HDMI cable/port. The PS4 can glitch and get an error report when there is no error.
  • Do the reset and cord thing
  • Keep in in a cool, open area
