The Flame In The Flood Reaches KickStarter Goal

The Flame in the Flood

The Flame in the Flood, a PC survival permadeath game, has reached it’s kickstarter goal. This was created by former Bioshock and Halo developers along with the formation of The Molasses Flood.

The kickstarter reached $150,000, the start goal for The Molasses Flood to really get this game going. Of course, with any kickstarter, there are stretch goals. These include German, French, Russian, Portuguese, Polish, and Spanish localization, Raft customization, and even a PS4 release for the game. Considering indie games have been eager to hit the PS4 market, putting this game in the mix would be a wonderful thing. Especially for PS4 users.

As posted by Forrest and the Team on the kickstarter page:

We did it! We have officially hit our goal! Thank you everyone who has backed us, who has spread the word, who has offered help. The outpouring of support and kind words has been overwhelming.

We really didn’t know how the campaign was going to go. There’s been a lot of talk among developers about the decline of crowd funding, about how it’s an extremely unpredictable route to go. Scary stuff to hear as we readied our project. Doing well can help secure the future for a team, doing poorly can torpedo projects. If a pitch with an investor or publisher goes poorly, it’s pretty private. If a Kickstarter campaign goes poorly, everyone knows.

In The Flame and the Flood, you’ll play as Scout, one who knows the ins and outs of the forest around her. There is an end in mind with the journey, but you the player will have to reach it without getting sucked into the mess of the world. The surroundings are based on real life rivers, such as the Everglades, Louisiana Bayou, and the Mississippi Delta.

The most important element of The Flame and the Flood is permadeath. When you’re dead, you start over. It goes back to the days of hardcore video gaming where you had to rely on your skills in order to succeed in a game. If this is the case, players will not be able to beat it on their first go around. They’ll have to play a few times in order to understand the mechanics of the game and really delve deep into strategy.

Survival games seem to have hit the mainstream after for example The Last of Us, Minecraft, and Day-Z have been such big hits for gamers. Considering some of the games have major survival tactics, it’s no surprise that The Flame in the Flood hopes to accomplish the same sort of goals.

If you’d like to see a preview of the game, The Molasses Flood has released a teaser as to what the game will entail.

What do you all think of The Flame in the Flood? Will you back this game? Are you struggling to want to buy the game? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments section below!
