Masahiro Sakurai, Super Smash Bros. director, has taken to Miiverse and posted a picture with details surrounding a new item in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games.
The item is a character from the classic shooter Galaga — that is named Boss Galaga — and can be used in the game as a tractor beam during combat. Sakurai’s message is as follows:
Pic of the day. If you get caught in the Boss Galaga item’s tractor beam, it will carry you away to the top of the screen. You can shoot it down, but it won’t join you in battle for double the firepower.
Following the description of the new item was also an image showcasing the Galaga character in action (listed below).
Galaga is another Namco-related franchise to make some form of an appearance in the new Super Smash Bros. games, with Pac-Man, as a playable character, having already been announced as another Namco property in the games earlier this year. With Super Smash Bros. for 3DS releasing on October 3rd, and its Wii U counterpart coming out later this year, more news about the games from Miiverse and other social media sources are bound to be announced.
