The trailer for Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer component for Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, has been revealed at The Game Awards in Last Vegas.

Kojima Productions’ LA-based studio is leading development on Metal Gear Online, with Kojima serving as an executive producer.

The opening footage has Big Boss flicking through a whole host of character skins available in Metal Gear Online, before a team of 8 players, including Snake, storm the opposing team’s base.

Players will be able to utilise the trademark stealth camouflage to sneak up on the position of an enemy, while traps can be set using the Fulton system and, in the progress, remove an individual from a match by sending them straight into the sky. Big Boss, however, demonstrates that a player can shoot down the balloon before their fellow teammate is eliminated.

Of course, Metal Gear Online has the quirky sense of humour that the series is renowned for, as players can deploy a cuddly toy dog — it’s absolutely adorable — to distract the enemy. Controllable bipedal weapons are also available on the map, which is similar to the one that Big Boss climbs onto in The Phantom Pain’s “Red Band” E3 2013 trailer.

Oh, and we can’t forget to mention the best part of Metal Gear Online’s trailer: Big Boss uses CQC to take Revolver Ocelot into a chokehold and, adjusting the focus on his camera lens, takes a Diamond Dogs selfie (see the featured image above).

Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will launch in 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
