During this year’s PlayStation Experience, which occurred over last weekend (from Saturday, December 6th through to Sunday, December 7th), the developer behind the Orcs Must Die! franchise, Robot Entertainment, along side publisher Gameforge and company Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), announced that the free-to-play and third installment to the series, Orcs Must Die! Unchained, will be coming to Sony’s PlayStation 4 for European players.
“Free-to-play has worked out excellently for us on the PC. Now, in partnership with Robot Entertainment, we are taking it to consoles: Orcs Must Die! Unchained is truly something special and is the ideal launch pad for us on the current generation of consoles,” commented Gameforge’s CEO, Carsten van Husen, in a press release. “Clearly, Sony shares this opinion and has decided to make OMD!U a flagship title for the free-to-play offerings on their console.“
Orcs Must Die! Unchained, an action game described as a fortress siege title, is currently available in Closed Beta form on the PC, and it has been continuously tweaked and improved upon thanks to the feedback provided by the game’s Closed Beta participants and player community.
Picking up where the franchise left off in the years after the finale of Orcs Must Die! 2, Orcs Must Die! Unchained offers a wide variety of maps as well as a of selection of characters to boot as well: barbarians, archers and mages. Each hero featured within Orcs Must Die! Unchained comes with their own skills and abilities, as well as their own class-specific weapons and spells. In addition to these, players will also have a wide range of traps to use at their disposal, which can be placed, replaced an upgraded in real-time.
The game also offers up a five-on-five player-versus-player match up that’s touted to be strategically challenging due to its combination of tower defense and third-person shooter mechanics.
