As the current year draws to an end, we’re taking the time to take a look at some upcoming titles that many of us are expecting. The Xbox One and Playstation 4 have had their launches, and the next year announces itself to be a good one in terms of next generation titles and highly anticipated sequels. So, what can we look forward to in the future? Let’s take a look

We’re unsure when the next stage in the Mass Effect saga will land, but there’s no doubt that the game is highly anticipated already. We know Bioware can’t afford to fail with the upcoming Mass Effect game, and we’re extremely curious to see what direction the story-line will be taking. It won’t be a Shepard one, that’s for sure. Different timeline? A prequel? A sequel? Will it still play the same or will the devs bring an entirely new gameplay system? These are all questions we want answered, and we can’t wait to get our hands on Mass Effect 4.

The next game in the Thief saga aims to be a reboot, and while the general consensus is that reboots are bad (thanks for that, Hollywood), we’ve seen the recipe applied correctly with this year’s Tomb Raider. Square Enix has already proven itself with revitalizing Lara Croft, and Eidos also bears a heavy name, so we’re confident that the next Thief is in good hands. While Garrett is no longer being portrayed by the same voice actor (and yes, we will be missing you Stephen Russell), the impression we’ve gotten from the announcement trailer isn’t a bad one. If the devs manage to keep the core elements that made the Thief saga a legend, they can’t really go wrong. We’re anxious to see what the new Garrett brings to the table and what’s in store for the future of the Thief saga.

The Wii U isn’t only about Super Mario Kart and Smash Bros., and Platinum Games aims to underline that point with Bayonetta 2. If there’s something we really love about Bayonetta, it’s that it is simply bat-sh!t crazy! And since the devs have promised us that “it will feel like fighting the last boss from the very beginning.” we’re all the more excited about it. Plus, the combat will be fine-tuned too, so there’s that. What can we say other than “bring it on!”?

Now how can we not think about a super-dynamic shooter that has bad-ass pilots and bad-ass robots in it? Titanfall brings an original concept to the table, and we’re itching to give it a try. I mean, you’ll be able to jump out of a mech and on top of another one, blowing it up and walking away without looking back (because cool people don’t look at explosions, you know). And that just sounds great! We love what we’ve seen so far, and we want to experience it ourselves. Plus, the game really manages to look great, so there’s that aspect to consider too.

The reboot for Mad Max will hit theaters in 2015, with Tom Hardy portraying Max instead of Mel Gibson. This is already enough to get us hyped, but the knowledge that an open-world action game is also in the works and aimed at a 2014 release only amplifies the feeling. The Mad Max game will include a vast barren wasteland to explore, vehicular combat (which we haven’t seen done well in a long, long time) and an extensive crafting system. If Avalanche Studios manages to populate the open-world well enough and make it intriguing to explore, we can expect some very atmospheric carnage.

CD Projekt took the gaming community by surprise a few years ago when it released The Witcher, and managed to surpass the original title with an even better sequel, The Witcher 2. Now, with the last member of the Witcher trilogy closing in, our expectations are even higher, and we’re confident we’re not going to be disappointed. The Witcher 3 brings a beautifully crafted open world, which truly looks next-gen, and we can’t wait to see how the story will unfold. With an improved combat system, huge cities to explore and horse-riding implemented, we’re going to be in for a treat.

Waiting for the next season of Game of Thrones was hard enough already, but Telltale’s announcement that it is working on a Game of Thrones game isn’t helping at all. We have a company that is spectacularly good at telling stories (as seen with the Wolf Among Us and Walking Dead series), and a universe that is mature, complex and intriguing. We don’t know what story threads the game will focus on, but we’re excited to discover them nonetheless. It’s still uncertain when we can expect Telltale’s Game of Thrones to land, it might be 2014, or it might be later, but it can’t come soon enough anyway.

This is the only title on the list that has not been officially confirmed, yet we have solid reasons to believe that Bethesda is already working on the next member of the Fallout family. Fallout 4 will most likely be set in Boston, and it’s hard to get bored of exploring the post-apocalyptic scenery of the game with some epic tunes running in the background. We love Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but we can’t wait for some new adventures in the brutal and mature world of Fallout.

Bungie has a proven track record of making successful sci-fi shooters and original worlds, and Destiny fits that description perfectly. With tons of worlds to discover and explore and the promises of an engaging story-line, we’re very curious to see what our galaxy might look like in this upcoming shooter. Futuristic abilities and weapons included! Yes please!

We’ve never heard of anyone overdosing on dystopian worlds. The more, the better. And CD Projekt promises just that with their upcoming futuristic punk RPG Cyberpunk 2077. We know CD Projekt makes great RPG’s, we know that they now have the necessary funds to take on such an ambitious project, and we know they’re working on it already. That, and the fact that their Cyberpunk 2077 trailer has won the “Best trailer of the year” award at VGX is enough reason to be hyped. We’re hoping to see a mature and gritty universe and a complex and original gameplay, and we’re confiden the studio is capable of delivering.

It’s hard to get tired of killing zombies, and there probably will be a lot of that in Dying Light too. Only this time, parkour, running and horror aspects are thrown in the mix as well. Dying Light looks really good, and promises to be extremely engaging. The fact that zombies will be more dangerous at night and the promises of a complex day and night cycle are extra reasons to why we’re excited to try it out. The gameplay videos already show a polished game, and this really looks like what Dead Island could have been with some more work.
