Yes, you’ve read right. Microsoft is trying to boost sales, and has gone far enough to offer Playstation 3 users the chance to receive a $100 discount towards their Xbox One purchase, should they decide to trade-in their old, but functional Sony console. The e-mail ad for the new promotion clearly and briefly states: “Ditch your PS3 and get $100 store credit towards Xbox One”.
This probably comes as a result of Microsoft shipping 3.9 million Xbox One consoles worldwide, but selling only 3 million out of them. In comparison, Sony boasts 4.2 million Playstation 4 sales and a ratio of 1.5 to 1 in terms of units sold in the UK (compared to the Xbox One, of course). Should you feel a craving for an Xbone, you’ll need to know that only select retailers in the US and Canada support this offer, and it will not work with online orders or purchases. The console you trade in must power on, work perfectly, show no signs of damage, have all parts and has to include all original accessories. Also important is the fact that the discount only applies if you purchase the Xbox One right when you trade in your old console.

In all fairness, the offer extends to old Xbox 360 consoles too, mainly the S and E models. Of course, the term “ditch” isn’t used when speaking about Microsoft consoles. The offer lasts starting from today and up until the 2nd of March. Playstation fans quickly responded to the aggressive add, stating that it’s better to keep your old Playstation 3 and buy a Playstation 4 for the same price as the discounted Xbox One. What’s your take? Good offer or not?
