The Godzilla-themed game, named “Godzilla” funnily enough, originally popped its head around earlier on this year, back when it was presumed that the game would release in Japan only. At the time, it was said that the game would allow for players to assume multiple eras of Godzilla, meaning that players would play different incarnations of the iconic gigantic lizard – even the incarnation from the 2014 movie adaptation.
In classic Godzilla fantastical fashion, the game’s missions are said to revolve around destroying cities and / or fighting other giant monsters as well. What’s more is that the game’s visuals are also said to be inspired by early movies of Godzilla.
It was later revealed that Godzilla wouldn’t be the only monster featured in the game, as MechaGodzilla also made an appearance (alongside other monsters as well).
Now, as revealed in a recently published press release, Bandai Namco Games Europe has confirmed that the game will making its way to Western markets, for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, in summer 2015; the game will be releasing in Europe, Middle-East and Australasia.
As implied above, you get to control Godzilla as you make your way to destroy Energy Generators and collect as much G-Energy as possible, trailing destruction in your wake of course. What G-Energy is collected can then be used to power-up Godzilla, allowing for increased physical size as well as offensive and defensive capabilities.
The game itself also boasts a dynamic camera feature that players can use. Coined as the “Movie-Style Camera Angle System”, this feature can deliver movie-like camera angels akin to the angels featured in early Godzilla movies.
Godzilla, as well as including opposing monsters such as Mothra, King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla, will come with a few gamemodes, including a singleplayer campaign (“Mission Mode”, complete with 20 different levels); a “Diorama Mode”, which lets players design their own little scenes of destruction; and a “King of Monsters Mode”, where you’ll have to fight way through the most famous enemies in the Godzilla franchise in order to park yourself onto of the monster hierarchy and be labeled as the King of Monsters.
“Godzilla has had a long history and is one of Japan’s most famous and massive pop culture exports that have entertained millions of people for generations in the West!” Bandai Namco Games Europe’s vice president of IP strategy, Herve Hoerdt, said in the press release.
“We’re happy to continue this great history by bringing the Godzilla videogame for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 to fans in our territories. Let the countdown to rampage and larger-than-life battles begin!”
Whilst no specific release date has been set so far, at least those interested in playing Godzilla will have their chance to during the summer next year, on either their PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4. We’ll bring you more news on this game should further information reach our ears. You can watch the game’s reveal trailer via the embedded video below.
