A sad day for MMO fans, as Sony Online Entertainment officially confirmed it will shut down Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Free Realms, Wizardry Online and Vanguard.
During a Reddit AMAA (‘Ask Me Almost Anything’) session yesterday evening, the president of SOE John Smedley that the company will stop the support of the four MMO titles, as they would like to focus on games that “will be there for the long haul.”
Smedley discussed the issue stating that the company does “no longer have the resources to dedicate to maintaining the code base, such that it can stay in sync with our platform.” Although the news was disappoint for most SOE MMO fans, he said that “it’s just time to shut down.”
Users will be able to continue playing Star Wars: Clone Adventures and Free Realms until the games are shut down on March 31. Players of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and Wizardry Online will be transferred to SOE’s new All Access subscription plan, just to meet their demise shortly after on July 31.
