Google Chrome Extension- Highlighted Text Translator

by GH Staff

Google Chrome is a web browser that is very popular and widely in use all over the globe. The reasons for its success could be of many extensions with unique features. One outstanding feature of Google Chrome is the online translation of websites from one language to another language in fraction of seconds. It is inconvenient for Internet users if they are redirected to a web page in which the contents are written in a language the user is not familiar with. Therefore, Google introduced an extension to its web browser which enables the Internet user to translate from one language to another language automatically. It has made foreign text reading more streamline. This idea has also been adapted by Wikipedia, the famous online encyclopedia which has articles in a number of languages available at no cost for its users.

Google has tried to enhance this feature to the next level and come out with the idea of translating the highlighted text in the web page. If an Internet user does not want to translate the entire text of the web page and wants to know the translated version of a single word or a paragraph in the web page, he or she can just click on the word or highlight it with the mouse. Then the user can right click on the highlighted text and choose the Google Translate option from the drop down menu that appears. Venture beat reports that the launch of this highlighted text translates in the Google chrome extension was released on 15th of October this year. One other feature comes along with this updated extension. This update is specifically targeted at Internet users who work on multiple languages frequently. If there are users reading in multiple languages, they can choose the option of translating the highlighted text automatically always. This saves time of the user from clicking it manually, highlighting them and then translating it.

Up until this upgrade or the earlier extension for translation from one language to another language came, it was quite hard for people to do this. They had to copy the entire text of the web content or part of the web content that the user wants to be translated to another language. This copied text will have to be placed in a separate translation tool such as own version of Google or BabelFish. The Google’s own version is still available for use to its users. Doing this, it did not take much hassle except for the time taken. But, with the new enhanced upgrade of the Google Chrome extension, the translation of the text is done in seconds which is much more interactive and user friendly.

The statistics report says that already over billion translations have been done so far from the date of launch of this extension which is not even a month back. If anyone founds this feature to be interesting, he or she can download the extension directly from the Chrome web store to their browser.
