Former Google Glass engineer Adrian Wong has been hired by Oculus VR. Wong worked for Google since 2010, where he worked on more experimental projects such as Project Loon and Google’s Driverless car. Wong helped to create both the consumer and explorer editions of Google Glass, acting as the senior hardware engineer.

Wong’s LinkedIn profile has him listed as an Oculus “Engineer”, however it’s not clear as to what that specifically means. Of course, this is nothing but good news for Oculus, having someone with so much experience joining their team. Wong is only one of several talented individuals to join Oculus recently, with John Carmack of id software, as CEO, Michael Abrash of Valve as Chief Scientist, and Atman Binstock of Valve as Chief Architect. Oculus has nothing to worry about with such an impressive team taking charge of the Oculus Rift development. I’m highly confident in their ability to create a successful product. Hopefully we’ll see the fruits of their labor come to fruition very soon.

It appears the race to bringing Virtual Reality gaming to the masses is heating up, as Sony had revealed a VR headset of their own last month. There have been various rumors that Microsoft has plans to release a Virtual Reality device of their own, however there has been no official statement regarding these rumors.

One thing is certain, Oculus VR is gaining more talented individuals every time we turn around. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before we see Oculus head for the consumer market. Will Virtual Reality soon become the standard for gaming? Let us know in the comments below if you think that the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus will simply be gimmicks, or do you think they will be the first step in revolutionizing the gaming industry?
