Back in April, Amazon revealed their new device for in-home media streaming. The newest addition to the Amazon library of media gadgets, Fire TV is a media streaming set-top box for living room use. The Fire TV measures at just .7 in thick, and features a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Krait 300 processor. The box also contains 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of on-board internal storage. For connectivity, the Fire TV features a dual-band wireless radio signal for 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, which is capable of presenting content at up to 1080p. While Amazon’s device is primarily geared towards streaming video content, the Fire TV has a library of video games available for play, along with a $39.99 controller for use.
Earlier today, another video game was added to the Amazon Appstore library, with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy. This compilation includes three of the best-selling Grand Theft Auto games in the series- excluding GTA V. While the announcement hints at the three titles being together in one collection, this purchase actually comes with a catch: The three titles included in The Trilogy are Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. By purchasing GTA: San Andreas, users will receive an additional 2,000 Amazon Coins. Like Nintendo’s “Points” currency, every 100 Coins is the equivalent of $1 (so $20). Once these extra coins are redeemed, they can then be used towards the other two Grand Theft Auto titles. Essentially, this is a “Buy One Game, Get Two Free” deal from Rockstar.
Also making its Amazon debut today is Twitch.TV’s live-streaming service. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy is also available for the Kindle Fire. Other available titles include Zombie Tycoon, The Sims 3 and Telltale’s The Walking Dead: Season 2.
