Rockstar’s intentions of bringing GTA 5 to the PC (currently, it’s only available on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360) were never really hidden. There have been multiple sources that suggested such a version would indeed be in the works. Some leaked logs several months ago suggested that a PC version for Grand Theft Auto 5 was in development and under testing. The same logs also suggested that GTA 5 would have DirectX 11 support on the PC, and will feature some significant graphical improvements. Additionally, multiple vendors across the world have listed (later removing these listings) PC versions of GTA 5, available for pre-order at times.
While nothing official has been revealed by Rockstar, it’s customary that all GTA games make it to the PC eventually, and in many cases, even mobile devices (the launch of Vice City for mobile platforms recently is a prime example). Rockstar will most likely release a PC version of GTA 5 this year, something that a recent leak from GameStop’s Power Up store seems to confirm. The store featured a listing for Grand Theft Auto 5, with the already well-known GTA 5 logo, accompanied by the Games for Windows logo.
Of course, the listing has since been removed, but what was once seen cannot be unseen. So where does this leave us? Nowhere, for now, but GameStop is just one of the multiple retailers showing signs of a PC version for GTA 5. The community wants it, Rockstar knows it, and its development is pretty obvious to anyone but the strongest skeptics. The fact that GameStop listed the title might be an indication that its launch-date isn’t that far either. If you’re excited to play GTA 5 on the PC, the wait might be soon over.
