Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta Gameplay From Roosterteeth, ‘The Know’ Gets Hands-On

by GH Staff

If you’re eager to see more Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer, Roosterteeth managed to get a hands-on experience with the beta before the official release. Gus Sorola and Ashley Jenkins present their experience with the beta on the Roosterteeth channel ‘The Know’ and explain what felt different and similar to previous Halo games.

A lot has been revealed so far in Halo 5’s multiplayer, including the ability to actively boost dodge, mantle ledges, perform an air-to-ground slam and utilize the new ‘smart scope’ system. You get to see each of these features in this video and how well they incorporate into the gameplay. So far, the flow of combat looks a lot like Halo 4 and the engagements are classic Halo arena-style. The new mechanics will likely take some getting used to, a lot like the movement mechanics in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, but mastering them will open up a whole new meta game to the Halo series.

Just as I mentioned, the movement greatly resembles Advanced Warfare but it’s important to note that features such as the boost dodge were in Halo 4 as an armor ability, and other features were a natural progression for Halo’s gameplay. Many have noted that movement mechanics have become the current flavor for FPS this year, with games such as Titanfall, Destiny and Advanced Warfare all granting players the ability to double jump, slide, mantle fast and so on. It’s easy to think of who copied who, but often these things happen by coincidence and it’s likely a sign of a genre’s evolution as a whole.

Tell us what you think of Halo 5’s multiplayer so far in the comments. The beta will be available on December 29 2014 for those who purchased Halo: The Master Chief Collection, out now for Xbox One.
