Just this past week, Halo 5: Guardians was announced for Xbox One. To add even my hype to the mix, Microsoft has confirmed that Steven Spielberg’s original Halo TV series will be premiering in that same time frame. As reported previously, Microsoft is working out a deal with Showtime as a partner for the TV show. Which means that the Halo television series would premiere on Showtime first.
Currently, Xbox has multiple television shows planned as original programming for the Xbox One. Of course, that’s not the only thing planned when it comes to bringing the Halo Universe outside of Xbox. There’s an additional digital feature coming around that same time frame as well. The television series will expand upon the Halo universe and will follow up on the story we already know with Master Chief.
343 Industries General Manager Bonnie Ross says “The Halo series will stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience,” It’s very possible we will hear more on these projects next month at E3. It’s a very interesting tactic to release not only a new Halo game, but all of this unique content that expands the Halo Universe all at the same time. Of course, this could also play a major role in the sales figures for Xbox One, especially since the Halo series is considered a major staple to the Xbox brand.
It will be very interesting to see reactions to the TV show. I certainly hope it is met with positive reception, and is developed in line with the Halo Universe and doesn’t harm the franchise. With Steven Spielberg at the wheel, I’m more than confident this will be a TV show worth watching. With E3 just around the corner, we’ll have to see if any details emerge regarding Halo whether it be the newest video game, television series, or digital feature, Halo fans will certainly have something to look forward to in 2015.
