[dropcap size=dropcap]H[/dropcap]eroes of Warcraft – Hearthstone itself is typically Blizzard-esque. Spells shoot across the screen towards the other players cards, the sounds we all know and love are incorporated too. You begin to feel the Warcraft presence whilst playing, you hear the spells or the battle shouts and feel like you are in the Arena once again. But as with World of Warcraft, its not simply about the fights and spells, its about how and when to use them, and this is key for Heroes of Warcraft – Hearthstone.
As with most RPTCG, deck selection is a massive part of the gameplay. This for me is a massive incentive, no more TCG based purely on the luck of the draw but rather coming down to strategy and skill. Before each battle:
- YOU choose the cards you think will beat your opponent.
- YOU choose which spells would be more effective, which defensive spells you may need and which types.
- YOU pick the cards that go next
- YOU devise a strategy for beating your opponent. Just like you would in a raid or in the Battleground.
- YOU also gain more cards for winning games, adding them to your existing cards as upgrades or providing new abilities or spells. Thus giving players the competitive thirst that has made PvP and indeed PvE so popular on WoW. Online play allows players to strategically plan, then battle for more cards, extra experience and rating. Heroes of Warcraft – Hearthstone hasl also opened the doors to Blizzard announcing its FIRST EVER TCG TOURNAMENT AT BLIZZCON 2013!
In the end the game detail in Heroes of Warcraft – Hearthstone’s that sparked my interest the most, was the Lore behind these cards. Nothing, ever, produced by Blizzard has not had an immense and epic storyline behind it, and these cards are no different. As the game is in effect a Warcraft game, a lot of the characters and spells are similiar to that of World of Warcraft, but Blizzard being the geeky story tellers that we know and love, adapted the cards and added to them EVEN MORE Warcraft Lore. Details about the classes, the spells, the backstory, are included with the cards. As well as some details not known by the masses about some of our favourite characters (NO SPOILERS! I’ll contain myself). Being a fan of the cut scenes and books this was a big selling point for me, and perhaps you folks too.
