Borderlands developer Gearbox Software announced that it would be remastering the acclaimed Homeworld games during last year, a move the studio promised after it purchased the Homeworld IP during former publisher THQ’s liquidation.
Aside from a tidbits here and there about the game, Gearbox’s work on the project have been relatively hushed. One of the studio’s more recent announcements regarding Homeworld Remastered was the unveiling of the game’s Collector’s Edition (which includes a 13″ replica of the Hiigara Mothership).
During this year’s PAX Australia, however, the developer not only revealed some work-in-progress development screenshots of how the game looks in its new graphical engine (along with enhanced cinematics), but it also gave a rough – but not definite – release date for when the game will hopefully launch: February next year.
“The game’s gonna be coming out in a few months,” Gearbox said during a panel at PAX Australia. “We haven’t announced the specific launch date yet, but I’m hoping […] February. We don’t have a publisher on this. We’re doing this all on our own, and it’s kinda new to us. We’re not good at marketing and distribution, and manufacturing and sales (and all that stuff), we’re good at making videogames. So, we’re figuring out that stuff.“
Gearbox then went on to detail its plans for the aforementioned Collector’s Edition now being pre-orderable in countries outside America, but it warned that it’ll be available in small quantities. You can place your order via Amazon.co.uk, which will also ship to Australia.
