It seems that web based games in the future is to mark a new start as in recent announcements made by PC World, a known computer magazine, say that Mozilla, the company behind Firefox, and Humble Bundle, an online site that sells ‘bundles’ of digital creations, have signed a partnership to unite the appeal given by both video games and internet browsing. Due to this, a collection of games are accessible that may be played directly via Firefox without needing plug-ins or a Steam account.
As of October 16 of the year 2014, eight titles have been available in the Firefox browser. The very first five were:
- Super Hexagon
- AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! for the Awesome
- Osmos
- Zen Bound 2; and
- Dustforce DX.
The other three games, namely Voxtron, FTL, and Democracy are also playable, but a specific amount must be paid on the website of Humble Bundle.
If you are a newbie to these kinds of things, this is how it would work, Humble Bundle will present its gamers with the choice to pay as much as they want, but must spend a minimum of a dollar so they could receive Steam keys, for an assortment of indie games. By defeating the standard donation or paying for a set amount, extra games may be made available to play.
Humble Bundle, which has been successfully promoting indie games for four consecutive years, also offer its customers mobile games, eBooks and mainstream titles at either its factory or discounted price. Proceeds are split between the site’s games development team and charities. The percentage of the sharing would then be decided by the client.
It’s uncertain at this point whether other games would be made available in the Firefox browser in the future. In a statement made by John Graham, Humble’s co-founder, he had said that it would ‘take work to do the ports’. He also adds that there is no rush to the project as it would not take over night to finish, but fans are rest assured that this is not a onetime thing. Either way, this will become interesting as we see how well this attempt would pay off in the future.
The only concern as of the moment would be that users will not have the skill to manually manage the games that are already installed. On the other hand, PC World announces that the certain problem would not become a very big deal for the games, which shockingly have more or less 300 MB as its storage. In the incoming future, the Humble Company would like and are planning to add a way to easily uninstall old content.
While the Firefox, as people say, is stated to be the best browser that one could use for Humble Bundle games, Chrome, Google’s browser and Firefox’s competitor, customer don’t need to worry as they will also be given the opportunity to play the games stated above in their default browser.
