In a time when AAA titles are being thrown at gamers from every angle, it’s easy to miss some of the spawns from smaller studios along the way. I’m talking about quality games that don’t get the attention they rightfully deserve. A lot of good games are going to fly right under our noses this year, but one that you should really give the time of day is Broken Bots.
From a small, Belgian developer called ‘Bunnycopter’ comes a unique, top-down multiplayer shooter. Broken Bots puts players into the role of robots armed to the teeth and ready for battle, with a slight mechanical issue that just may be causing them to gradually break down into a full system shutdown. Doesn’t sound so great? Keep reading…
Broken Bots is a simplistic top-down shooter at first glance, with retro visuals and catchy techno tunes that will throw you right back into the good old 90’s. It features everything a good online multiplayer title should have, including the bread and butter of gaming modes: Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and King of the Hill. While shooting their way through these various matches, players will encounter all sorts of power-ups that will give them a much needed edge over the competition. Broken Bots also mixes things up a bit and adds a layer of complexity to the game with the ‘broken’ aspects of the game. Throughout matches, players will have to complete small side objectives while fighting to survive to keep their robot from shutting down.

Starting today, players can also sign up for the Broken Bots open beta, which will be a week-long testing phase starting sometime in early August. For the event, Bunnycopter will be partnering with four other indie studios to provide the opportunity to win discounts on other noteworthy indie titles. More details on the launch will be release in the coming weeks.
“We can’t wait for the beta to kick off and to announce the other indie studios we’re teaming up with as we think indie gaming fans will be stoked.” -Toon Van Wemmel
Broken Bots will be available Sept. 2014 for PC, Mac, and Linux. Bunnycopter will also be starting it’s own greenlight campaign so look for that as well in the near future.
