While we’ve heard some news on the potential frame rate cap for Infamous: Second Son, the details have been shrouded in accordance to the game developers stating that “it’ll just have to wait until the next patch.” Today’s post on the official Playstation blog brought some good news for those that have been patiently waiting for Infamous: Second Son to release some brand-new content following the Paper Trail DLC that was launched earlier this month. Sucker Punch has managed to take into account most of the player’s complaints when it came to the in-game experience in Infamous: Second Son.  Brian Fleming commented that, “you’ll be able to disable the HUD, and once you’ve finished the game you’ll be able to adjust the time of day as you like.” So that’ll open up a broad range of customization for the player, or those that just prefer one distinct setting over another.

Another statement reassured that the game would not be seeing a limitation, as was the original backlash to the idea of the Infamous: Second Son patch. Details allude to a downgrade version of Infamous: Second Son that’ll run at about 30 FPS. Keeping in mind, of course, that this is a setting that users can swap out if they’d prefer to play the game at that rate rather then the initial settings offered in Infamous: Second Son. Fleming explains further in his post, “To set expectations for you all: this is a frame rate cap — not a lock. It won’t eliminate the rare instance of a dropped frame during gameplay.”

Some of the other updates will include:

  • A handful of localization text changes, and a couple of fixes for rare crashes in the game (Thanks to all of you who uploaded reports on those, they were extremely helpful!).
  • If your controller runs out of batteries in the middle of gameplay, your game will pause. Our art director pulled a hamstring scrambling to get his second controller mid-boss-battle, so we needed to fix this.
  • If you’re choosing expert difficulty, we let you know within the options dialog if you’re qualified for the “Unstoppable” trophy the moment you opt in.
  • Photo Mode.

The one worth honorable mention is the newly instated Photo Mode. Considering the high-end quality of all the screenshots that have been shared in cyberspace, the game (and developers) played around with the idea of taking photographs (or screenshots) and sharing them around much, much easier then before. Brain Fleming expressed his gratitude, as well as his excitement for this upcoming change as he explained the controls and capabilities of Photo Mode, “you can enable photo mode within the options. Once you do that, clicking L3 will pause the game, and allow you to use a suite of our internal tools (like setting depth of field) to take even more amazing shots.” So go forth, and let your inner photographer shine, Infamous: Second Son fans!

The release of the patch is due on April 17th at some unannounced time. But expect it, nonetheless!
