Installing In Six Steps Windows 10 Technical Preview

by GH Staff

Windows 10 has finally arrived! However, it is still in beta, the preview has been accessible for quite some time before they launch the official version. It was made available a few weeks ago by Microsoft. This is a complete how-to guide for those that are challenged technically, in which will help you to install in a jiffy, Windows 10.

Available now is a couple of choices for PC users to install Windows 10. You are able to install using a virtual machine which will work better, or using a pen drive. Using the virtual machine will not impact the PC, but instead will take up space on the hard drive.

There are several free available virtualization software, in which allows for the user to run Windows 10 on the current system, and quickly remove once you have had enough of the preview. Meant to take only 30 minutes, the process will probably take longer dependent on the speed of the computer.

Here Are The Steps Needed:

1. First is to download the Windows 10 preview ISO file. You will have to go through a set of beginning screens until you are able to get to the page for downloading. You will then be able to down scroll and choose the version preference (32 or 64 bit) and the preferred language.

2. You will then download and install Oracle VM Virtual Box. This virtualization tool is free and will provide you the possibility of running the Windows 10 on whatever version of Windows already on your system.

3. Running the VirtualBox, you will select the icon. Input “Windows 10” into the dialog box of the Create Virtual Machine, and choose the version. Choose Windows 8.1 in order to match the already downloaded ISO. Then select Next.

4. The memory size will be recommended by VirtualBox, and you will accept the changes unless needing to modify it. You will then choose to select Virtual hard drive, and choose Creat. Accept the VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image) for the drive’s file type, and select Fixed Size, for the virtual drive. At last select the Create option, be a bit patient for VirtualBox to create a virtual drive.

5. Then when the drive is ready, choose the button labeled Start in the toolbar of the VirtualBox. A box will pop up and will inform you to Select startup disk. Then you select a small file folder that is on the right of the drop down box. You will go to ISO file for Windows 10 and choose to start.

6. Like any other software install Windows 10 and be sure to select the option to Custom: Install Windows only (advanced), as soon as it appears. Normally it will take a few reboots for the set up process in a virtual machine.

Then you are finished. That is all you need to for installing Windows 10 on your PC.
