Interceptor Entertainment, the company who acquired Apogee Software and 3D Realms, has just announced a brand new IP to be released in 2015. The new game, Bombshell, will run on the Unreal Engine and it will only be released for the PS4 and PC. Now the computer generated preview reveals very little about the actual gameplay: the three minute trailer has the titled character Shelly ‘Bombshell’ Harrison watching a presidential speech until an alien attack interrupts the event. It is important to point out that the female character is in a skimpy outfit and has a robotic right arm; the trailer ends with a ‘Terminator-like’ scene where ‘Bombshell’ rides off on a motorcycle with a shotgun.
With the trailer, Interceptor Entertainment reveals other key details about Bombshell on their website. The game will feature new worlds where the player traverses four separate planets to “rescue the president from an apocalyptic alien threat.” On top of this, the gameplay features a top down view that has Bombshell facing off against “bloodthirsty predators, an augmented alien species, and the remnants of an ancient race re-animated:” and the supposed level design will be non-linear, interactive and there will be the ability to complete side-quests. Finally, the game will have RPG elements that will allow the player to customize the character’s robotic arm, and gain experience points that will lead to further upgrades.
Yes, this is probably one of the most ridiculous looking games in recent memory and the trailer reminds me of the Duke Nukem Gearbox game, which always ‘left a bad taste in my mouth.’ But for now, I will give Bombshell ‘the benefit of the doubt.’ Supposedly, it will be released in Q1 of 2015, and this will be the second collaboration between 3D Realms and Interceptor Entertainment: the first was the mediocre Rise of the Triad remake. For more information, go to the previously linked website, which reveals the main character’s backstory and other cool features (like the possibility of modding on the PC). And finally, here is the ludicrous three minute trailer.
